How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

How to Measure Your Ring Size at Home

Getting your ring size just right is important for comfort and fit. While the most accurate way to find your size is always to visit us at Luminous Treasures for a professional measurement, you can also get a good estimate at home using these simple methods.

Important Tips Before You Measure:

  • Timing is Key: Measure your finger at the end of the day when your fingers are warmest and typically at their largest. Avoid measuring when your hands are very cold or hot, as this can cause your fingers to shrink or swell.

  • Multiple Measurements: Measure your finger 2-3 times to ensure accuracy and consistency.

  • Knuckle Check: If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, measure both the base of your finger and your knuckle. Choose a size that will comfortably slide over your knuckle but won't be too loose at the base of your finger.

  • Band Width: Consider the width of the ring you're interested in. Wider bands tend to feel tighter, so you might need to go up half a size.

Method 1: Measure an Existing Ring (Most Recommended Home Method)

If you have a ring that already fits the intended finger perfectly, this is the easiest and most accurate home method.

You will need:

  • A ruler with millimetre markings.

  • An existing ring that fits the desired finger.

Instructions:

  1. Take the ring that fits the finger you intend to wear your new ring on.

  2. Place the ring on a flat surface.

  3. Using your ruler, measure the inside diameter of the ring (the straight line across the centre of the inner circle). Make sure you measure from the inside edge to the opposite inside edge.

  4. Once you have your measurement in millimetres, refer to our Ring Size Chart below to find your corresponding UK/Australia ring size.

Method 2: Measure Your Finger (Circumference Method)

This method measures the circumference of your finger.

You will need:

  • A strip of paper (approx. 15cm long and 1cm wide) or a piece of non-stretchy string.

  • A ruler with millimetre markings.

  • A pen or marker.

Instructions:

  1. Wrap the paper or string snugly around the base of the finger you want to measure. Make sure it's tight enough not to slip off, but not so tight that it pinches.

  2. Use a pen to mark the point where the paper/string overlaps.

  3. Unwrap the paper/string and lay it flat.

  4. Use your ruler to measure the length from the beginning of the paper/string to the marked point in millimetres. This is your finger's circumference.

  5. Refer to our Ring Size Chart below, specifically the "Europe (Circumference in mm)" column, to find your corresponding UK/Australia ring size.
